Beowulf Dies!

The way that Beowulf died was probably painful for him to get bit by a huge dragon. The way that he dies i really don't like. He was a good man and i thought he should have been able to still live. He could have just had an injury and retire from fighting things, let one of the warrior take his place. Well hearing that Beowulf was a old man trying to fight a dragon. He should have stayed at home or something. It wasn't his fight to fight the dragon since he didn't steal the dragon gold. "Then the terrible dragon third time rushed, hot and battle-grim. He bit Beowulf's neck with sharp tusks--Beowulf was wet with life's blood;blood gushed in waves." Maybe he deserved to die and it was his time to go since He thought he could fight everything. Maybe he thought he was that young Beowulf that no one could defeat in a fight and he finally found his match maker and got hisself killed over something he didnt have anything to do with.

Compared Beowulf to other Heroes stories

Compared to this story, where Beowulf was from he was the big hero. As in any other stories most of the heroes always ending up dying or getting hurt. People like Beowulf wants to fight for the right things and help people out. (Compare him to spider-man). Spider-man flew around helping people when his spider senses went tingling. Beowulf went helping people when he heard something bad was happening somewhere he knew of.

"I feared no one.I awaited my destiny well:never did I plot a quarrel, never did I swear an unjust oath.I take joy in this, despite a mortal wound. The Ruler of Mankind will not charge that I murdered a kinsman when my life departs this body(Beowulf)". Spider-man and Batman, didn't fear anyone just as Beowulf didn't fear anyone. The difference with Beowulf is that he prayed that God will always be there with him through what ever fight he was going up against. I've never seen Batman or Spider-man pray in there movies.

October 15, 2008 i went back to Georgia Institute of Cosmetology again and it was the same as the last Monday when i went. First of all i just sat there and observed, watched to people cut some customer hair. One of the instructors was highlighting someone hair. One of the students was coloring a doll hair a red-ish color, it was cute. They didn't have much business going on because they was a getting ready to take their state exams to get their cosmetology license. But their exams wasn't the real one, it was a practice exam so they could be prepared for the real one which they take in Macon, Ga. Mrs. Shelly showed me their classroom and she's an instructor. After that i went back to observing the others and after they was getting ready for their test i left. I didn't want to be in their way. So really nothing went on much.

Anglo-Saxon's culture!&& How Beowulf Illustrated It!

Beowulf was a true warrior. He did whatever he felt that was right. The Anglo-Saxon is described as invading different tribes in the East and South of Great Britain. Beowulf illustrate what the Anglo-Saxons believed, By him going to Herot to fight Grendel because they really couldn't handle him. "Beowulf, leader of the host unlatched his word-hoard:"As to kin, we are of the Geat nation, Hygelac's hearth-companions. I may advise Hrothgar how he, wise and famous, may overcome this enemy--if change will ever come, relief from this evil--and how this seething sorrow might become cool. Otherwise, he will suffer tribulation as long as he lives in that high place, the best of houses." Beowulf was willing to help Hrothgar out, from some bad monster that was killing his people in Herot.

"The Romans were very good at protecting Britain from invaders with their technologically advanced military." How the Romans protected Britain from invaders is just like Beowulf protecting Herot from that big monster "Grendel". When the Romans left Britain with no protection in A.D 409. When Beowulf died, he left Hrothgar and others without his protection. He had died for them and to keep them safe from the dragon, Grendel and his mother. Beowulf showed that he was loyal and he was also going to fight for the right thing no matter if he defeat what's he fighting or die while fighting it. He was going to do it and no one could change his decisions once they are made up.

-Think about what you know about the Anglo-Saxon's culture. How well does Beowulf illustrate what the Anglo-Saxons believed? Give at least three separate examples, and back them up with direct evidence from the poem

--Animism (soul, life) commonly refers to a religious belief that souls or spirits exist in animals, plants and other entities, in addition to humans

--The Celts believed that spirits were in animals, which can be taken to the story. Grendel was some type of animal or something. He nor his mother was human.

12 episodes of Beowulf

Beowulf was a warrior of Hygelac's and he heard of the Grendel's and what he was doing. Beowulf was the strongest of men of that day, he was mighty and noble. He wanted to help the king fight against this man. Beowulf and fourteen brave warrior loaded the ships and had bright weapons and fitted armor. As they landed on shore one Of Grendel warrior came and asked who they were. And Beowulf spoke up and said,"As to kin, we are of the Geat nation, Hygelac's hearth-companions. My father was a leader well known among the people: Edgtheow. He stayed many winters before he went away, aged, from the court. We have come with friendly hearts to see your lord, Healfdene's son, protector of the people.Be good counsel to us:we have come on a great errand to the king of the Danes. Perhaps in kindness I may advise Hrothgar how he, wise and famous, may overcome this enemy--if change will ever come, relief from this evil--and how this seething sorrow might become cool. Otherwise, he will suffer tribulation as long as he lives in that high place, the best of houses."

The man on the horse let them through to pay the Hrothgar a visit. The came upon a man by the name Wulfgar and he told Hrothfar that Beowulf wanted to speak with him and do not refuse the request. Hrothfar knew Beowulf father and wanted to welcome them in. Beowulf spoke with Hrothfar and asked if he could fight Grendel. Hrothgar said these words:"Never, since I have been able to lift shield, have I entrusted this hall, this mighty house of the Danes, to any man.But now I entrust it to you.Have and hold this best of houses.Keep fame in mind, watch against the foe, and make your valor known! You shall lack nothing if you survive this deed." So those words coming out of his mouth was a response that he could fight Grendel.

As Beowulf went to bed his warriors thought he wouldn't see home again because no one has survived again Grendel. Grendel enter the hall and seen all the warriors and thought to his self that he could rip out the life of each one of them. "Grendel's spirit was afraid and his heart eager to get away, to flee to his hiding place, flee to the devils he kept for company. Never had he meta man such as this." Grendel was afraid of Beowulf and felt sorry that he made a trip to Herot. He wanted to escape for Beowulf. Beowulf killed Grendel and no the warrior feld sad for him because he deserved what was coming for him. Grendel mother also deserved what happen to her also. The ending when Beowulf had died, i think that was sad his life was taken from all the good things he had done for people.

I think the story was an interesting story. I liked it. I think Beowulf was a mighty good warrior and fought for what he thought was right. The part that stuck out to me was when Grendel was scared of Beowulf and he wanted to escape and felt sorry he had came to Herot. Grendel killing so many people i wouldn't have thought he would get scared of Beowulf. I guess you look at things from an different angle when you are faced with someone that is stronger and powerful than you.

Reflect the Middle Ages

The literature i've read reflect to the Middles Ages because of The Black Death was happening all around. Reading Pardoner, it explains that a lot of people are dying and they wants to kill what is causing it. "There came a privy theif, they call him Death, who kills us all round here, and in a beath he speared him through the heart, he never stirred. And the Death went his wasy without a word. He's killed a thousand in the present plague. If you should meet him; you had best be wary." The Black Death is connected to Pardoners Tale because it is the causing of people death.

The Pardoner's Tale

From what I've read so far someone was in a coffin and someone wanted to find out who was in it. Someone by the name Death did the killing. "Who kills us all round here, and in a breath he speared him through the heart, he never stirred". This person by the name Death kills a lot of people and he doesn't care who they are. Three young rioters made a vow together to kill the Death and that they would be brothers and defend for each other. The three guys came upon and old man and asked if he knew where the Death was and the old man told them waiting under a tree. So they left to go to the tree and found a pile of gold.

One guy left to get them some supplies. While he was gone the other two guys planned to kill him for it could be an equally share between the two of them. The boy who left for town bought some poison for the other boys to drink. When he got back the other two boys did their plans and drink ed to poison for his killing and they also died too.

My experience at Georgia Institute of Cosmetology was okay. It was nothing like Empire Beauty School. Georgia Institute of Cosmetology is a very open place. When i first got there, they greeted me and asked what i was there for. I had to wait for at least about 20 to 30 minutes for someone to assist me. As i was waiting i was looking at girls doing a manikin doll hair and also an instructor helped a student make a wig for herself. The wig came out pretty good.

After observing them, i went inside an office and was introduced to the lady(i forgot her name) that was going to show me around the place. We walked around and she showed me all the stations where they do hair and shampooing area. And also where the student that still work on dolls do hair at and i think they only had one classroom. After that she had me sit at the front to answer the phone and greet people when they came inside if they weren't a student. They didn't have much business going on. Their prices were cheap compared to a regular salon prices. While i was there i didn't do much, just sat and stared at people do one another hair.

Prolouge to the Caterbury tales

THE KNIGHT: "A knight there was, and he a worthy man, Who, from the moment that he first began To ride about the world, loved chivalry, Truth, honour, freedom and all courtesy" (prologue). At a combat he always killed his opponents. He didn't dress well.

THE FRIAR: The Friar is less a man than the Monk. "A friar there was, a wanton and a merry, A limiter, a very festive man".

THE MERCHANT: He likes to talk. "Scholars have charged the Merchant
with gold smuggling or even coin clipping; but, although "shields" were units of money, they
were neither gold nor coins".

WIFE OF BATH: She has been married five times and she is one of only three women on the pilgrimage. She sounds to be a big woman. "I dare swear that they weighed a full ten pound". She make people laugh.

MILLER: "The miller was a stout churl, be it known, Hardy and big of brawn and big of bone; Which was well proved, for when he went on lam At wrestling, never failed he of the ram". He is a very strong man who like to show off that he is strong. For Example he breaks through doors with his head.

THE PARSON: "a good man of religion, too, A country parson, poor, I warrant you; But rich he was in holy thought and work". He was a patient guy and well content. He seems to be a good man that deserves more.

The Middle Ages: Crusades, The Murder of Thomas a Becket, The Magna Carta, & The Black Death

The Crusades began in the eleventh century and lasted several hundred years. The Crusades mainly fought against the Muslims. They wanted to recapture the Jerusalem and the Holy land from the Muslim rule. Every crusader took an vow that he or she was committed to fulfil as a penance. They were fought against those perceived to be the external or internal foes of Christendom for the recovery of Christian property.

The Murder of Thomas a Becket. The situation between Henry and Becket didn't go to plan how the King wanted it to go. Becket did not agree with Henry against the Pope. Becket and Henry argued about how much power church courts should have and they argued a lot more. In 1170 Henry and Becket made an agreement for him(Becket) to become archbishop again. Becket punished everyone that agree with Henry in their arguments and Becket was also criticising Henry in public. Henry didn't like that so he sent his knights to kill Becket. Henry walked barefoot from London to Canterbury to show he was sorry. Becket was made a saint after his death.

The Magna Carta. It require King John of England to proclaim certain rights and accept that his will could be ruled by the law. Magna Carta influenced the development of common law and many constitutional documents. In 1215 King John agreed to the demands of his barons and authorized that handwritten copies of Magna Carta was sealed.

The Black Death. "was one of the deadliest pandemics in human history, widely thought to have been caused by a bacterium named Yersinia pestis, but recently attributed by some to other diseases" (wikipedia). They thought it began in Central Asia or India and was brought to Europe in the 1340's. Black Death killed up to 30% to 60% of the Europe population. There are three different types the bubonic, pneumonic, and septicemic and the bubonic was the most common seen.

11:30 a.m.--1:30p.m.

This past Friday, i went up to Gwinnett to visit Empire Beauty School. My appointment was at 11:30 and i was there a bit early than that, so i had to wait until the person i was seeing (Dana) was finished up with another person. While me and my mother was waiting, we seen everything that was going on. I thought the place was going to look like a regular school, but it was way different from what i thought. It was a salon up front and in the back was two class rooms, lockers, and a eating place when they go on break. Just about everyone within the salon part was doing someone hair, some were cutting, straightening, curling, perming, doing nails, and shampooing. The lady that was doing the perm was on the older woman hair for a long time. When doing a perm for a salon, it's suppose to take you 10 minutes.

After looking a the lady doing the perm, Dana who i visiting for my interview, came and greeted me and my mother and we went inside her office. She was telling me all about everything they do and how they help you when you are done with their classes. She showed me three out of the seven dolls i will get. The three dolls she showed me was man doll with facial hair, an Asian girl doll, and an black doll. Her point of showing me the dolls were their texture of hair and how each doll have a different type of hair that i would have to learn how work with. Dana asked me why i wanted to do hair and i really couldn't give her an straight answer because i really couldn't think, then she told me after the tour she was bout to give us, i should have an answer.

There were people in the classroom that was doing each other hair, and some were showing other the correct way of doing something. The classroom are like regular classrooms with desk, board, and of course a teacher. In the salon part of Empire Beauty School they had a place for nails, shampooing hair, hair-dryers, make-up chair, and a place where the hair styling goes down. Then we went back to her office and she asked me why do i want to do hair and i told her they was like a family, they worked well together, and it was something i always wanted to do, it's in my blood my mother and sister did hair and it fit my description of doing hair. I can see myself succeeding in hair and making people feel good about their selves.

Most Important to them

I don't know what was important to them because i really don't get the whole diary. Them losing a lot of shops and churches probably was important because they needed those place. Or the king not doing a lot of helping to put the fire out probably was important to them.

"from the Diary of Samuel Pepys"

He watched them hang Major General Harrison. He was there when they was deciding if they should let Charles Stuart be king. July 11, 1664, he thought someone was breaking into their house but then notice it was just their dog. "At last Jane rose and then i understand it was only the dog wants a lodging and so made a noise". September 2, 1666, is when the Great Fire of London took place while everyone was sleep and they woked up to see just about everything burned down. Churches and people houses(shops) were burned down.

A Modest Proposal

While reading A Modest Proposal, the first i didn't understand it at first, but the second time i got it a little bit because i understood what the message was. In the proposal the man was saying that the Ireland ate one year old. Which I'm pretty sure they didn't do. I have been assured by a very knowing American of my acquaintance in London, that a young healthy child well nursed is at a year old a most delicious, nourishing, and wholesome food, whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled ...”Irony was used as satire in this proposal, he exaggerated a lot in this, seems things in his own way. ”

Satire

The word Satire in my words basically means someone might be making fund of something or someone. I would take the word as an attitude towards someone you don't like or just want to pick on.
Satire used in school would be like a group of girls standing around and another girl that one of the girls dont like walks in. The girl that dont like the other girls might try to make fund of the girl just to make her friends laugh at her foolish act.

*The Glorious Revolution*

Reading The Glorious Revolution, which was explaining how the glorious revolution was discovered. When Charles died, his brother James II took the throne. James was a catholic so many people were not fund of that. Some people belived that the Roman Catholic set fire and caused disater to London and they were thinking about letting Pope run the country. James "queen" had a little boy and they went to France and that's when the The Glorious Revolution was accomplish. James daughter was nexted in line and her and her husband being childless, her sister Anne was next. Anne had many of kids but none of them survived, so Anne cousin George had to become King.

The reason why the event was so important, was because people didnt have to worry about a Catholic being on the throne anymore. People felt that Catholics were trouble and blamed them for everything that might had went bad. (Ex. London being set on fire and other disasters.)

Writing Four!

To Whom It May Concern:
The following dress code that the Clarke County School District is trying to pin on us as student’s called for. Those that are deciding on this do not know what’s best for us students. Only the student’s and teachers knows what’s best. If the teachers don’t agree with the new dress code it should not matter to Clarke County School District on what we wear. Teachers are the ones that see us everyday, not the board of education and parents.
One thing that I agree to is that students should come to school clean, but then again some student might have it hard and can’t keep their self clean as well as others. Some student’s parents can’t provide them with good clothing; they are probably having money issues. Clarke County School District is going to make it harder for the parent’s that do not make much money, because they will have to buy their children more clothes just because the school district does not agree on what they are already wearing to school.
How students dress for school expresses that they are and not who the school district wants them to be. The dress code that we have now is good enough; they don’t have to change it just because some student parents think other student’s causes a distraction. The parents don’t go to school with us; they don’t have to see us everyday. If they want the student to dress a certain way, then they should dress their own kids the way they want others to dress. I think if they don’t buy our clothes they can not tell us what to wear only our parents can since they pay for them.
Everyday when I attend school, I do not get distracted by what others are wearing or how they look. When I’m inside of my classrooms and someone with a tattoo, I do not sit there and pay attention to their tattoo, I do the work that should be done. Tattoos are not showing any disrespect to anyone. I don’t come to school for a fashion show, I come to show the teachers that I am here to learn what ever they want to teach me. This rule with the earrings is despicable, no hoop earring! Earrings are not hurting anyone in any unparticular way. Hats and caps, we already know we can not wear them, so that’s a rule that may stay.
If they take that new dress code in a consideration, the whole Clarke County School District is going to be ridicules. It is more likely more students are going to make the school drop-out rate even higher with the Clarke County School District stupidity on how they are handling things the wrong way. If teachers are fine with it and say that they don’t see any distraction in their classrooms, I think the Clarke County School District and the parents should think the same way.
Well to whom ever it is that is reading this, I hope you take a time-out and think about the decision you all are making and that it is not a good one. You people might not realize it but everything that you all are changing is making student think twice about their education because yall are making it harder for us to learn coming up with these crazy nonsense rules for no unparticular reason.

Zora Neale Hurston's "Sweat"

Her husband like to play little games on her that would scared her half to death. "Some day Ah'm goin' tuh drop dead from some of yo' foolishness". She said that to her husband so he could stop playing around with her and realize she is serious. "Ah been married to you fur fifteen years, and Ah been takin' in washin' for fifteen years. Sweat, sweat, sweat! Work and sweat, cry and sweat, pray and sweat!" By this Delia did all of the work and all he ever did was complain and aggravate her his childish ways and making her work more harder to do.

I think he treated her the way he did, because he knew she wouldn't do anything to him. Mr.Syke had the men talking about him and his business. That's not good for everyone to know your business, that makes Delia look bad because she's still putting up with. I would have left him by now, had me doing everything. They wanted to kill him for his ways. "We oughter take Syke an' dat stray 'oman uh his'n down in Lake Howell swamp an' lay on de rawhide till they cain't say Lawd a' mussy.' He allus wuz uh ovahbearin' niggah, but since dat white 'oman from up north done teached 'im how to run a automobile, he done got too biggety to live--an' we oughter kill 'im," Old Man Anderson advised."

He cheated on his wife for another woman and didnt care that he was cheating. "Ah hates you tuh de same degree dat Ah useter love yuh." This showed that she was fed up with and tired of putting up with his stuff. "Well, Ah'm glad you does hate me. Ah'm sho' tiahed uh you hangin' ontuh me. Ah don't want yuh. Look at yuh stringey ole neck! Yo' rawbony laigs an' arms is enough tuh cut uh man tuh death. You looks jes' lak de devvul's doll-baby tuh me. You cain't hate me no worse dan Ah hates you. Ah been hatin' you fuh years." Something like that coming out of his mouth i expected that, because he didnt show her any respect at all. He wasn't nothing but the devil.

"Delia, is dat you Ah heah?" He called for her to help him after all the things he had done and said to her and expected her to help him. I would have just looked at him. What goes around comes around and if it don't do that, it is going to bite you on the butt. That snake had him and she left him to die. Something he deserve and then again no one deserves to die, but that's how life is.
