Beowulf Dies!

The way that Beowulf died was probably painful for him to get bit by a huge dragon. The way that he dies i really don't like. He was a good man and i thought he should have been able to still live. He could have just had an injury and retire from fighting things, let one of the warrior take his place. Well hearing that Beowulf was a old man trying to fight a dragon. He should have stayed at home or something. It wasn't his fight to fight the dragon since he didn't steal the dragon gold. "Then the terrible dragon third time rushed, hot and battle-grim. He bit Beowulf's neck with sharp tusks--Beowulf was wet with life's blood;blood gushed in waves." Maybe he deserved to die and it was his time to go since He thought he could fight everything. Maybe he thought he was that young Beowulf that no one could defeat in a fight and he finally found his match maker and got hisself killed over something he didnt have anything to do with.

Compared Beowulf to other Heroes stories

Compared to this story, where Beowulf was from he was the big hero. As in any other stories most of the heroes always ending up dying or getting hurt. People like Beowulf wants to fight for the right things and help people out. (Compare him to spider-man). Spider-man flew around helping people when his spider senses went tingling. Beowulf went helping people when he heard something bad was happening somewhere he knew of.

"I feared no one.I awaited my destiny well:never did I plot a quarrel, never did I swear an unjust oath.I take joy in this, despite a mortal wound. The Ruler of Mankind will not charge that I murdered a kinsman when my life departs this body(Beowulf)". Spider-man and Batman, didn't fear anyone just as Beowulf didn't fear anyone. The difference with Beowulf is that he prayed that God will always be there with him through what ever fight he was going up against. I've never seen Batman or Spider-man pray in there movies.

Mentor Log: October 16, 2008

October 15, 2008
3:15 p.m--5:15p.m

October 15, 2008 i went back to Georgia Institute of Cosmetology again and it was the same as the last Monday when i went. First of all i just sat there and observed, watched to people cut some customer hair. One of the instructors was highlighting someone hair. One of the students was coloring a doll hair a red-ish color, it was cute. They didn't have much business going on because they was a getting ready to take their state exams to get their cosmetology license. But their exams wasn't the real one, it was a practice exam so they could be prepared for the real one which they take in Macon, Ga. Mrs. Shelly showed me their classroom and she's an instructor. After that i went back to observing the others and after they was getting ready for their test i left. I didn't want to be in their way. So really nothing went on much.

Anglo-Saxon's culture!&& How Beowulf Illustrated It!

Beowulf was a true warrior. He did whatever he felt that was right. The Anglo-Saxon is described as invading different tribes in the East and South of Great Britain. Beowulf illustrate what the Anglo-Saxons believed, By him going to Herot to fight Grendel because they really couldn't handle him. "Beowulf, leader of the host unlatched his word-hoard:"As to kin, we are of the Geat nation, Hygelac's hearth-companions. I may advise Hrothgar how he, wise and famous, may overcome this enemy--if change will ever come, relief from this evil--and how this seething sorrow might become cool. Otherwise, he will suffer tribulation as long as he lives in that high place, the best of houses." Beowulf was willing to help Hrothgar out, from some bad monster that was killing his people in Herot.

"The Romans were very good at protecting Britain from invaders with their technologically advanced military." How the Romans protected Britain from invaders is just like Beowulf protecting Herot from that big monster "Grendel". When the Romans left Britain with no protection in A.D 409. When Beowulf died, he left Hrothgar and others without his protection. He had died for them and to keep them safe from the dragon, Grendel and his mother. Beowulf showed that he was loyal and he was also going to fight for the right thing no matter if he defeat what's he fighting or die while fighting it. He was going to do it and no one could change his decisions once they are made up.

-Think about what you know about the Anglo-Saxon's culture. How well does Beowulf illustrate what the Anglo-Saxons believed? Give at least three separate examples, and back them up with direct evidence from the poem

--Animism (soul, life) commonly refers to a religious belief that souls or spirits exist in animals, plants and other entities, in addition to humans

--The Celts believed that spirits were in animals, which can be taken to the story. Grendel was some type of animal or something. He nor his mother was human.

12 episodes of Beowulf

Beowulf was a warrior of Hygelac's and he heard of the Grendel's and what he was doing. Beowulf was the strongest of men of that day, he was mighty and noble. He wanted to help the king fight against this man. Beowulf and fourteen brave warrior loaded the ships and had bright weapons and fitted armor. As they landed on shore one Of Grendel warrior came and asked who they were. And Beowulf spoke up and said,"As to kin, we are of the Geat nation, Hygelac's hearth-companions. My father was a leader well known among the people: Edgtheow. He stayed many winters before he went away, aged, from the court. We have come with friendly hearts to see your lord, Healfdene's son, protector of the people.Be good counsel to us:we have come on a great errand to the king of the Danes. Perhaps in kindness I may advise Hrothgar how he, wise and famous, may overcome this enemy--if change will ever come, relief from this evil--and how this seething sorrow might become cool. Otherwise, he will suffer tribulation as long as he lives in that high place, the best of houses."

The man on the horse let them through to pay the Hrothgar a visit. The came upon a man by the name Wulfgar and he told Hrothfar that Beowulf wanted to speak with him and do not refuse the request. Hrothfar knew Beowulf father and wanted to welcome them in. Beowulf spoke with Hrothfar and asked if he could fight Grendel. Hrothgar said these words:"Never, since I have been able to lift shield, have I entrusted this hall, this mighty house of the Danes, to any man.But now I entrust it to you.Have and hold this best of houses.Keep fame in mind, watch against the foe, and make your valor known! You shall lack nothing if you survive this deed." So those words coming out of his mouth was a response that he could fight Grendel.

As Beowulf went to bed his warriors thought he wouldn't see home again because no one has survived again Grendel. Grendel enter the hall and seen all the warriors and thought to his self that he could rip out the life of each one of them. "Grendel's spirit was afraid and his heart eager to get away, to flee to his hiding place, flee to the devils he kept for company. Never had he meta man such as this." Grendel was afraid of Beowulf and felt sorry that he made a trip to Herot. He wanted to escape for Beowulf. Beowulf killed Grendel and no the warrior feld sad for him because he deserved what was coming for him. Grendel mother also deserved what happen to her also. The ending when Beowulf had died, i think that was sad his life was taken from all the good things he had done for people.

I think the story was an interesting story. I liked it. I think Beowulf was a mighty good warrior and fought for what he thought was right. The part that stuck out to me was when Grendel was scared of Beowulf and he wanted to escape and felt sorry he had came to Herot. Grendel killing so many people i wouldn't have thought he would get scared of Beowulf. I guess you look at things from an different angle when you are faced with someone that is stronger and powerful than you.

Reflect the Middle Ages

The literature i've read reflect to the Middles Ages because of The Black Death was happening all around. Reading Pardoner, it explains that a lot of people are dying and they wants to kill what is causing it. "There came a privy theif, they call him Death, who kills us all round here, and in a beath he speared him through the heart, he never stirred. And the Death went his wasy without a word. He's killed a thousand in the present plague. If you should meet him; you had best be wary." The Black Death is connected to Pardoners Tale because it is the causing of people death.

The Pardoner's Tale

From what I've read so far someone was in a coffin and someone wanted to find out who was in it. Someone by the name Death did the killing. "Who kills us all round here, and in a breath he speared him through the heart, he never stirred". This person by the name Death kills a lot of people and he doesn't care who they are. Three young rioters made a vow together to kill the Death and that they would be brothers and defend for each other. The three guys came upon and old man and asked if he knew where the Death was and the old man told them waiting under a tree. So they left to go to the tree and found a pile of gold.

One guy left to get them some supplies. While he was gone the other two guys planned to kill him for it could be an equally share between the two of them. The boy who left for town bought some poison for the other boys to drink. When he got back the other two boys did their plans and drink ed to poison for his killing and they also died too.
